HP J9148A ProCurve 2910al-48G-PoE+ Switch

The HP J9148A is a managed ProCurve 2910al-48G-PoE+ Gigabit Ethernet switch designed for high-performance Layer 2 and basic Layer 3 switching in enterprise, campus, and converged networks. It provides 44 auto-sensing 10/100/1000BASE-T RJ-45 ports with PoE+ support and 4 dual-personality ports that can function as either additional 10/100/1000BASE-T copper ports or mini-GBIC (SFP) slots for fiber optic connectivity.The switch delivers wire-speed, non-blocking performance with a switching capacity of 176 Gbps and throughput up to 131 million packets per second. It supports full-duplex operation on all ports and advanced features including IEEE 802.1Q VLANs, port trunking (IEEE 802.3ad LACP), Spanning Tree Protocol (STP/RSTP/MSTP), IGMP/MLD snooping, broadcast/multicast storm control, ACLs, rate limiting, and QoS with traffic prioritization (Layer 2/3/4). Basic static routing and RIP are also supported for enhanced flexibility.
The 4 dual-personality ports offer versatile uplink options: they accept standard RJ-45 cables for copper Gigabit connections or compatible mini-GBIC/SFP transceivers (such as 1000BASE-SX, 1000BASE-LX, or 1000BASE-LH) for short- or long-reach optical links. Additionally, the switch supports up to four optional 10-Gigabit Ethernet modules (CX4 or SFP+) for high-bandwidth uplinks.

Management is provided through a web-based GUI, command-line interface (CLI) via console, Telnet, or SSH, SNMP, and single IP address management for stacking of up to 16 switches. A dedicated RJ-45 console port enables out-of-band management. The switch supports LLDP-MED for automated device discovery and power allocation, as well as sFlow for traffic monitoring.
The J9148A is engineered for 1U rack-mount installation with front-panel status LEDs for port link/activity, PoE status, and system indicators. It features an auto-ranging AC power supply (100–240 V, 50/60 Hz) with maximum power consumption up to 556 W (including full PoE load). Environmental specifications support operation from 0°C to 55°C and up to 95% non-condensing humidity, making it suitable for wiring closets and data center environments.
