Descripción
The Nortel Networks NTTP02CD is a hot-pluggable SFP (Small Form-factor Pluggable) optical transceiver module designed for OC-3/STM-1 applications in Nortel optical transmission platforms, including the OME6500 and other compatible multiservice transport systems. It provides a single bidirectional optical interface operating at the nominal line rate of 155.52 Mbit/s (OC-3/STM-1).This module is classified as Intermediate Reach (IR-1) / S-1.1 according to SONET/SDH standards. It uses a 1310 nm Fabry-Perot (FP) laser transmitter and a PIN photodiode receiver, optimized for transmission over single-mode fiber (SMF, 9/125 µm). The typical transmission distance is up to 10–15 km depending on fiber attenuation and link budget (approximately 19 dB power budget). The transmitter output power is typically in the range of -15 dBm to -8 dBm, with receiver sensitivity supporting low bit error rates over the specified reach.
The NTTP02CD complies with ITU-T G.957 and Telcordia GR-253 standards for STM-1/OC-3 IR-1 interfaces. It supports framed SONET OC-3 and SDH STM-1 signals, including section, line, and path overhead processing when integrated with the host platform. The module enables transport of concatenated payloads or mapping of lower-rate tributary signals (such as E1/T1) through the system’s grooming functions.
Optical connection is realized via LC duplex connector, ensuring compact size and reliable mating. The transceiver features Loss of Signal (LOS) detection, automatic laser shutdown (ALS) for eye safety (Class 1 laser product), and digital diagnostic monitoring (DDM) capabilities for real-time reporting of optical power, temperature, voltage, and laser bias current to the network element management system.
The module interfaces electrically with the platform via the standard 20-pin SFP connector, supporting 3.3 V power supply with low power consumption suitable for high-density card configurations. It is hot-swappable, allowing insertion and removal without interrupting service in redundant setups. Environmental specifications include an operating temperature range typically from -40°C to +85°C (industrial grade variant) or 0°C to +70°C, with high humidity tolerance and built-in ESD/surge protection.
The NTTP02CD is primarily used for intermediate-reach interconnections between optical add-drop multiplexers, terminal equipment, or as a tributary interface in metro transport networks. It supports co-existence with other SFP modules in the same shelf and is fully compatible with Nortel’s element management systems for remote provisioning, performance monitoring (including BIP errors, signal degrade/fail), and alarm reporting.
Installation requires standard fiber cleaning procedures, correct Tx/Rx polarity, and adherence to minimum bend radius for the optical patch cords. The module is intended for telecommunications operators maintaining or expanding legacy Nortel SDH/SONET infrastructure, providing reliable 155 Mbit/s optical transport with low jitter and high signal integrity over single-mode fiber links.
This SFP transceiver offers a compact, cost-effective solution for OC-3/STM-1 intermediate-reach applications while ensuring full interoperability within Nortel multi-service platforms.
