Descripción
The Nortel Networks NTTP60AE is a hot-pluggable SFP (Small Form-factor Pluggable) electrical transceiver module designed for STM-1E (electrical) interfaces in Nortel optical multiservice transport platforms, including the OME6500 and compatible SDH equipment. It provides a single bidirectional 155.52 Mbit/s electrical interface compliant with STM-1E specifications for coaxial cable connections, serving as a direct replacement or complement to optical STM-1 SFP modules in the same shelf slots. This module implements the STM-1 electrical (STM-1E) interface according to ITU-T G.703 and related SONET/SDH standards for 155 Mbit/s electrical signals. It features a 75 Ohm coaxial interface (typically 1.0/2.3 or BNC-style connectors depending on the platform adapter) for transmit and receive paths, supporting transmission over standard 75 Ohm coaxial cables with reaches up to 200–300 meters depending on cable quality and attenuation. The transceiver performs electrical line coding (CMI – Coded Mark Inversion), clock recovery, and signal conditioning to ensure compliance with jitter and pulse mask requirements defined for STM-1E.
The NTTP60AE is fully compatible with framed SDH STM-1 signals, supporting section, line, and path overhead processing when integrated with the host platform’s mapping and cross-connect functions. It enables seamless grooming and transport of lower-rate tributaries (such as E1) or concatenated payloads within the multiservice node. The module includes Loss of Signal (LOS) detection, automatic transmit disable functions, and performance monitoring capabilities including error checking and signal quality metrics reported to the network element management system.
Electrical connection to the platform is realized via the standard 20-pin SFP MSA connector with 3.3 V power supply. Power consumption is low (typically under 1 W), allowing high-density deployments alongside optical SFPs in the same card. The transceiver supports hot-swap insertion and removal without service disruption in redundant configurations. Environmental specifications follow carrier-class requirements, with an operating temperature range usually from 0°C to +70°C (commercial) or extended variants, along with high humidity tolerance and built-in ESD protection.
This SFP is primarily used for short-distance intra-office or co-located equipment interconnections where coaxial cabling is preferred over fiber, such as between SDH add-drop multiplexers, cross-connects, or test equipment. It offers full interoperability with optical STM-1 SFP modules in mixed configurations and integrates with Nortel’s element management system for remote provisioning, alarm reporting, and detailed performance data collection (including BIP errors, signal degrade, and signal fail thresholds).
Installation requires proper coaxial cable termination, impedance matching, and adherence to maximum cable length and attenuation limits. The module provides a compact, reliable, and cost-effective solution for deploying STM-1E electrical interfaces within legacy Nortel (now Ciena-supported) SDH/SONET infrastructure while maintaining compatibility with existing platform software and hardware.
