Nortel NTHW08BA Control Processor

The Nortel Networks NTHW08BA is a Control Processor (CP3) Module designed for the Nortel Passport MSS 15000 (Multi-Service Switch 15000) multiservice switching platform. It serves as the main system controller, responsible for overall system management, call processing, routing decisions, configuration control, and coordination of all line cards, fabric modules, and other functional processors within the chassis.This processor module features a PowerPC-based architecture with enhanced processing power and memory capacity optimized for high-throughput multiservice environments. It supports E1 BITS (Building Integrated Timing Supply) synchronization input, enabling precise network timing and clock distribution essential for ATM, Frame Relay, IP, and TDM services in carrier-grade deployments. The NTHW08BA handles system boot, software load management, redundancy control, and real-time operations required for large-scale core and edge switching applications.

Key operational features include centralized management of QoS policies, traffic engineering, fault monitoring, and performance statistics collection across the entire Passport 15000 shelf.
