Avago AFBR-57R5APZ 4/2/1 GBd Multi-Rate Fibre Channel SFP Transceiver

The Avago AFBR-57R5APZ is a high-performance Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP) optical transceiver designed for Storage Area Network (SAN) applications. It supports multi-rate data transmission at 4.25 GBd, 2.125 GBd, and 1.0625 GBd, ensuring full backward compatibility with 4G, 2G, and 1G Fibre Channel legacy infrastructures. The module utilizes an 850 nm Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser (VCSEL) to facilitate high-speed data transfer over multimode fiber (MMF). It is capable of supporting link distances up to 150 meters on 50/125 µm OM2 fiber and up to 300 meters on OM3 fiber at 4.25 GBd signaling rates.The device is fully compliant with the SFP Multi-Source Agreement (MSA) and the FC-PI-2 physical layer specifications. It features a standard duplex LC optical interface and operates on a single 3.3V power supply. The AFBR-57R5APZ incorporates an integrated Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) interface, which provides real-time telemetry of critical operating parameters. Network administrators can monitor laser bias current, transmitted optical power, received optical power, transceiver temperature, and supply voltage. This functionality is essential for proactive maintenance and ensuring the high availability of enterprise-class storage systems.
Constructed for carrier-grade reliability, the transceiver is housed in a robust metallic enclosure designed to minimize electromagnetic interference (EMI) and provide high mechanical durability. The module is hot-pluggable, allowing for non-disruptive installation and replacement while the host system is operational. The AFBR-57R5APZ is optimized for low power consumption and is engineered to operate reliably within a commercial temperature range of 0°C to 70°C. It is lead-free and RoHS compliant, serving as a versatile and stable interface for Fibre Channel switches, directors, and host bus adapters (HBAs).
