Description

The Opnext TRF7052FN-CA020 is a hot-pluggable SFP (Small Form-factor Pluggable) optical transceiver module intended for high-speed telecom and datacom applications. It supports multirate operation, covering STM-1/OC-3 (155 Mbit/s), STM-4/OC-12 (622 Mbit/s), STM-16/OC-48 (2.488 Gbit/s) and related protocols, providing flexible deployment options within a single hardware unit. The module operates in the C-band with a specific ITU-grid compatible wavelength (typically in the 1550 nm range for this series) using a high-performance laser transmitter and PIN photodiode receiver. It is optimized for single-mode fiber (SMF 9/125 µm) transmission. Depending on the exact optical budget and dispersion characteristics, the transceiver supports intermediate to long reach links suitable for metro and regional transport networks.

The TRF7052FN-CA020 complies with the SFP MSA and relevant ITU-T G.957 / Telcordia standards for SONET/SDH interfaces. It processes framed signals with section, line, and path overhead when installed in compatible host platforms. The design includes rate adaptation capabilities, allowing the module to operate across multiple line rates without hardware changes.

Optical interface uses a standard duplex LC connector for reliable and compact connectivity. Built-in features comprise Loss of Signal (LOS) detection, automatic laser shutdown (ALS) for Class 1 laser safety compliance, and digital diagnostic monitoring (DDM) according to SFF-8472. This enables real-time reporting of optical transmitted and received power, laser bias current, internal temperature, and supply voltage to the network management system.

The transceiver connects electrically through the standard 20-pin SFP interface with a 3.3 V power supply. It features low power consumption, making it ideal for high-density line cards and shelves. Hot-swap support allows insertion and removal without interrupting traffic in redundant configurations. Environmental performance meets typical carrier-class requirements, including commercial operating temperature range (0°C to +70°C) or extended variants, high humidity tolerance, and protection against ESD and electrical surges.

This SFP transceiver is mainly deployed in SDH/SONET add-drop multiplexers, optical cross-connects, and multiservice provisioning platforms for wavelength-specific or multirate links. It ensures interoperability with Opnext and third-party compatible equipment while integrating seamlessly with element management systems for remote configuration, performance monitoring (including BIP error checks and signal quality thresholds), and alarm management.

Installation requires standard fiber optic cleaning procedures, correct transmit/receive fiber polarity, and observance of minimum bend radius. The module delivers a reliable, compact solution for cost-effective optical transport at rates up to 2.5 Gbit/s over single-mode fiber in legacy and current telecom infrastructures.
