The Source Photonics SPP-10E-SR-CDFB is a hot-pluggable SFP+ (Small Form-factor Pluggable Plus) optical transceiver module designed for 10 Gigabit Ethernet short-reach applications. It provides a single bidirectional optical interface compliant with IEEE 802.3ae 10GBASE-SR and 10GBASE-SW specifications at a nominal line rate of 10.3125 Gbit/s.This module operates at a nominal wavelength of 850 nm using a VCSEL (Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser) transmitter and a PIN photodiode receiver. It is optimized for multimode fiber (MMF, 50/125 µm OM3) with a typical transmission distance of up to 300 m. The optical specifications support reliable performance with low bit error rates (better than 10⁻¹²) over the specified reach on OM3 fiber. Transmitter average output power ranges from -7.3 dBm to -1 dBm (typical), with a minimum extinction ratio of 3.5 dB.
The SPP-10E-SR-CDFB complies with the SFP+ MSA (SFF-8431 / SFF-8432) and supports serialized 10 Gbit/s data streams with low jitter generation. Digital diagnostic monitoring (DDM/DOM) functions compliant with SFF-8472 are implemented, allowing real-time reporting of transmitted and received optical power, laser bias current, temperature, and supply voltage via the I²C interface for performance monitoring and fault isolation.
Optical connectivity is realized through a duplex LC connector. Key operational features include Loss of Signal (LOS) detection and assertion, automatic laser shutdown (ALS) for Class 1 eye safety compliance, and hot-swap support. The module uses the standard 20-pin SFP+ electrical interface with a single +3.3 V power supply and low power consumption (typically below 1.5 W), making it suitable for high-density 10 Gbit/s port configurations in switches, routers, and data center equipment.
Environmental specifications include a commercial operating case temperature range of 0°C to +70°C, high humidity tolerance, and RoHS compliance. This SFP+ transceiver is primarily used for short-reach 10 Gbit/s Ethernet links within data centers, server rooms, or enterprise campus networks, as well as for intra-rack and inter-rack connections where multimode fiber infrastructure is deployed.
The module integrates seamlessly with network management systems for remote monitoring. Installation requires standard fiber optic cleaning procedures, correct Tx/Rx fiber polarity, and adherence to minimum bend radius guidelines for duplex LC patch cords.
