Nortel NTJS09DA OC3S FP 2-Port OC-3c/STM-1 ATM FP Card

The Nortel Networks NTJS09DA (also known as OC3S FP) is a 2-Port OC-3c/STM-1 ATM Functional Processor (FP) Card designed for the Nortel Passport MSS 7480 and compatible multiservice switching platforms (Passport 6000/7000/15000 series family). It provides two independent OC-3c/STM-1 (155.52 Mbps) ATM ports with single-mode fiber interfaces for high-speed ATM connectivity in carrier-grade multiservice networks.This line interface module supports full ATM cell switching, VP/VC cross-connection, traffic management, and Quality of Service (QoS) features. It performs ATM Adaptation Layer processing and seamless interworking with other Passport FP cards and fabric modules for non-blocking cell forwarding and multiservice aggregation. The card is optimized for ATM backbone, aggregation, or access applications requiring reliable OC-3/STM-1 transport.
The NTJS09DA features two single-mode fiber ports with SC duplex connectors, supporting transmission distances up to 15 km (intermediate reach) or longer depending on the specific optics variant over ITU-T G.652 single-mode fiber (SMF). It integrates directly with the Passport backplane, working in conjunction with fabric modules for system-wide traffic engineering.
For installation and maintenance, the module occupies a dedicated line card slot in the Passport MSS 7480 chassis. It is a field-replaceable unit with robust backplane connectors. The card operates on standard -48 VDC telecom power and includes front-panel indicators for per-port link status, activity, alarms, and module health. Proper fiber cleaning and inspection are essential to maintain optimal optical performance.
The card is engineered for carrier-class reliability in central office environments, complying with NEBS-level requirements for electromagnetic compatibility, thermal performance, and high availability. It supports redundant configurations where applicable and facilitates fault isolation through built-in diagnostics and system-level monitoring.
During operation, the NTJS09DA continuously monitors port status, ATM cell statistics, and link quality on both ports, reporting alarms and performance data to the central control processor. Configuration, traffic engineering, and firmware updates are managed through the Passport Element Management System or CLI.
